The Rise of Android on the Mobile Web

Thanks to Admob for the picture.

Now here's an interesting chart.

What's important here: Last month in the US market, web usage on Android handhelds actually exceeded that of the iPhone.

If your company has a website, that is good news. Let me explain.

The numbers are an imperfect measure: they're based on advertisement tracking, so web pages not showing Admob's ads are not counted. But the overall trend is going to be the same: mobile web browsing on Android-based devices has equaled or exceeded that of the iPhone among US consumers.

This indicates a healthy competition in the US smartphone market. Not everyone wants (or can get) an iPhone. Android is available on many different devices, high-end to lower-end, which will appeal to many different market segments. The iPhone offers much less variety - consumers have to "take it or leave it."

What does this mean for your business? If your company has a website, it's good news. All else being equal, this healthy competition can only increase total web usage. More people browsing the web on mobile increases the value of your company website, particularly if it is mobile optimized.

Be Successful,
